Birch trees, Bishops and Back Roads - Koivuja, Piispoja ja Pikku Teitä...

So, just got back from St Tikhon's about an hour ago. What a lovely trip again, even though I'm exhausted from driving 8 hrs today. Got up at 4:45 and we left here at 5:30. While I love driving I have 5 other people (and an unborn baby) in my car that are my responsibility to get to and from safely.
The weather couldn't have been better. It was nice and cool in the morning through most of the Divine Liturgy and then sunny and warm (ok, almost too warm) during the day. I'm once again well fried but it's pretty much tradition. But, I got to see birch trees again and that always makes me happy!
It was nice to see some old friends and to meet some new. Sadly not that many people attended this year as previous years (and only four bishops) but it did give plenty of space to walk around. I was lucky to venerate several relics of Saints as well as get some good pictures of the mosaics on the grounds. I really hadn't realized how wonderful the mosaic and icon of St Seraphim of Sarov are and then to have the chance to venerate his relics as well. Wow.
On our way home there was a big accident that had the main interstate closed so I hopped on a backroad and while most kept on the main back road I managed to figure out another one and we cruised quickly after that. Could have taken several hours more to get back had I not figured out that route because as we got back up on the interstate, it was still completely closed.
Well, I'm reaching exhaustion... time for a shower and then bed! I'll add pictures to this post tomorrow!

40 days past Pascha - 40. päivää Pääsiaisen jälkeen

Taas aika on vierähtänyt. Pääsiäisen aika on kohta ohi. Sain viettää sunnuntai päivän Holy Trinity ihmisien kanssa ja ei ole ihan turhaa että kutsun tätä paikka 'koti kirkoksi'. Istuttiin pitkään ja juteltiin. Nyt pitäisi mennä nukkumaan ja sitten on aamulla aikainen nousu ja lähtö St Tikhoniin.

Once again time has flown and Paschal season is about to be over. I got to spend this Sunday with my church family at Holy Trinity. There is a reason why I call this church my 'home church'. We sat and talked for a long this afternoon and it was a good time. Now I should get myself to bed as it'll be an early morning to head up to St Tikhon's.
I took the picture above today and I think you can see the Paschal joy so well in it.

Ei Vierivä Kivi Sammaloidu - On the Road Again!

Probably the most common question my friends ask me is 'Where are you going now?' So while my travels aren't as plentiful as they used to be, I'm still on the move a fair share. I guess it's a way to center myself and have some peace and quiet. Things never seem to stop at home. There is always something that HAS to be done or somewhere one HAS to be. Since I got back from Finland it has been a constant go, go, go. Between dad visiting, tidying up the house and who knows what else, I've barely had time to sit down and do anything that would center my thoughts again. So when the trip to St Tikhon's came across the table I planned a longer trip along with it.
I finished up planting and enjoying the garden. It's been so hot already so that I've had to water pretty much every day. I'm already tired of the heat and the fact it makes me feel like I have zero energy and my brain doesn't work well.

My home - Kotini

So yesterday I packed up for almost a week in Baltimore with a trip on Monday to St Tikhon's up close to Scranton, PA. There will be 6 of us going and I'll be happily doing the driving.
Last night I went to the Chapel for vigil, sang a little and spent a lot of time chasing down the stinkbugs. Poor folks up here as there is soooo many of them around. Did the traditional stop at McDonald's afterwards with some folks and then I headed up to church to get settled. I'm so glad I can stay at the empty rectory/old monastery because I can help out at church, enjoy the quiet and still be close to everything in the area.
Sat around for a long time after church chatting with friends. It was nice to have a conversation with normal people about rather normal things.

Yleisin kysymys mitä saan on 'Mihin olet nyt menossa? Nykyään kun en matkusta läheskään yhtä paljon kun ennen, mutta kuitenkin vielä usein menossa jonnekin. Luulen että se on tapa tasapainottaa itseäni ja nauttia vähän rauhasta ja hiljaisuudesta. Kotona on aina jotain menossa, aina jotain hälinää ja tekemistä. Siellä on AINA jotain mitä pitää tehdä tai jossain missä on PAKKO olla. On ollut jatkuvaa menoa siitä kun tulin takaisin Suomesta.

Isän vierailun, siivoamisen ja kaikkea muuta, on hyvä että on edes ollut aikaa istua ja rauhoittua. Joten kun sain mahdollisuuden lähteä St Tikhonin luostarin pyhiinvaelluspäivälle, suunnittelin sen lisäksi pidemmän jakson Baltimoressa. Sain viimeiset taimet maahan ja katselin vähän puutarhaa. Nyt on jo ollut niin kuumaa että on ollut pakko kastella melkein joka ikinen päivä. Inhoan tätä kuumuutta. Se vie kaiken energian ja ja aivot ei toimi kunnolla.

Joten eilen pakkasin auton ja jään melkein viikoksi Baltimoreen ja siihen mahtuu päivän retki St Tikhonin luostariin, lähellä Scranton, PA, maanantaina. Meiltä lähtee kuusi henkilöä ja minä iloisena ajan.

Eilen illalla kävin kappelissa vigiliassa, lauloin jopa vähän ja vietin paljon aikaa siirtämässä parisen tusinaa typpyludetta kappelin ulkopuolelle. Täällä niitä on riesaksi asti (ja enemmän). Käytiin sitten vigilian jälkeisellä Mäkkari stopilla ja jatkoin matkaa kirkon tilohin. Olen niin iloinen että voin asua täällä papin asunossa joka ei ole käytössä ja että voin samalla sitten auttaa kirkossa (siivoamista ym) ja myös nauttia hiljaisuudesta.

Kirkon jälkeen istuttiin pitkään ja juteltiin kaikenlaista. Oli kiva jutella muista asioista ja ihan normaali ihmisten kanssa.

Finally got my boots replaced. These Ariat Heritage are a bit different but so comfortable. Fit well and I could wear them all the time.

Star Jasmine (Confederate Jasmine), not really a jasmine but smells wonderful. It shouldn't even grow well here (about two zones north of its limits) or survive the winters but it grows like crazy on the north side of the house and has to be cut down a lot twice a year.

Tähtí-jasmiini joka ei ole oikea jasmiini mutta erittäin tuoksuva. Ei pitäisi edes kasvaa hyvin täällapäin (kaksi vyöhykettä pohjoisempana kun pitäisi olla) mutta kasvaa hyvin ja pärjää talvet hyvin jopa talon pohjoispuolella.
